With proper care and treatment, your Himalayan salt stones will last your entire massage career. Keeping the stones dry is of the utmost importance, they are hygroscopic by nature so moisture will degrade the salt causing it to be rough and get smaller. The salt itself is antimicrobial, the mineral content so high nothing can live, grow or be passed on the stones. In the event that you do need to “clean” your stones, while in a hospital or spa environment for example, a solution called DECON 30 is recommended as a natural solution. Lightly spray the solution directly on the salt’s surface and dry thoroughly.
You can also use a fine sandpaper, 220 grit, to smooth the stone in the event of any roughness from moisture. A well cared for salt stone is as smooth as glass and never exfoliating. Most therapists miss the mark and are not educated for the proper care to keep your stones this way, if you do choose to ‘clean’ your stones follow through with the protection stage of Jojoba application and brief buff with microfiber cloth – Jojoba is a liquid wax and will protect your stones from getting rough.
Salt stones work well with any medium when you massage however Hobacare Jojoba is ideal. Any oil or oil combination is fine but will not protect the stone, lotions and creams may require you to occasionally sand your stone due to the chemical nature and water content. Whatever medium you use just remember at the end of the day a brief application of Hobacare Jojoba followed with a microfiber buffing is all that is needed to protect your stones for years to come
Once part of the primordial sea bed these magic healing stones, handcrafted from salt crystals found deep beneath the Himalayas have enormous benefits to your clients circulatory system, respiratory system, joints, muscles, their general well-being and of course your hands!
An absolute must to incorporate with your massage when a quality session is sought.
